NPA's Accuracy in Dispensing Course

The NPA's Accuracy in Dispensing Course aims to give pharmacy dispensing staff a greater level of skill and confidence in dispensing medicines, allowing pharmacists to work on the enhanced services required by the new contract.

The course follows a national framework to develop skills to a level of competence suitable for checking the accuracy of dispensed prescriptions. It also highlights the legal issues surrounding the dispensing process. Applicants can register for the course at any time during the year and study at their own pace.

To complete the Accuracy in Dispensing course and be awarded the NPA certificate students will be expected to undertake the following activities:

  • Provide written assignments
  • Practice based assignments
  • Monthly appraisals with a supervising pharmacist
  • A final assessment with an independent NPA assessor

Both students and trainers will be provided with the following information to aid participation and completion of the course:

  • Step by step guide to working through the programme
  • Suggested guided reading
  • Details on developing the necessary Standard Operating Procedure
  • Guidance on how to complete the evidence portfolio required for the final assessment including sample diary sheets, error report logs and appraisal forms
